On Saturday, December 11, the Area Office of the Carolinas hosted its 2nd Annual Holiday Open House. The open house allowed residents in our community to learn more about our work. There were various activities to coincide with different program focuses. Visitors packed relief kits for our friends in Haiti, films were shown from the storyology project which gave immigrant and refugees in Charlotte, NC an opportunity to tell their stories, and people signed holiday peace cards and took photos on why they support peace.
The open house was a success in that it allowed AFSC staff and interns a chance to meet supporters and Greensboro residents. Below is a film made from the peace photos and footage from the open house.

The Situation, The Question
A man walks on the bus with an expired bus ticket. The bus driver lets him on anyways. He is homeless. He is cold. he is hungry. He isn't going anywhere. He is just trying to find a place to stay warm. He sits at the front of the bus and looks out the window. He holds his head in his hands and you can see his body shaking. The loud noise of the bus moving covers his outcries so that all I can hear is a faint moan.
Over 12,000 people are homeless in North Carolina. Over 1,000 of those people are in Guilford County alone. As an American Friends Service Committee Intern what can I do to help our neighbors get out of homelessness and prevent more of our neighbors from becoming homeless?
